(My opinion haven't changed~)
So I'm sure plenty of people know about these, they are so insanely hyped on social media by youtubers, fashion bloggers and pr mavens. Annnnd I admit I am guilty of being influenced by the media on my purchases.
However, at the end of the day you have to realise that they are being paid to rave about the product and us normal consumers/plebs are the ones who have to fork out the money for them.
So if you have never seen or heard about these before, here is a picture of what they look like on the ads. (This is the one I got, Layla in rose gold)
OMG Soooo cute, so unique and such a statement!
Well.... think again.
Here are the cons:
1. Poor quality.
Honestly, for a pair of $150 USD headphones you would expect the sound and the craftsmanship to be pretty on point, but for these ones...all I can say is see for yourself. The pouch is made of a flimsy material with a little piece of ribbon, and the ear pieces slide up and down the band.
I also purchased an additional set of caps which are the mother of pearl ones ($45USD). The caps came in the most unappealing packaging ever AND it had little cracks and flaws on it.
As for sound quality...I'm no music junkie or tech expert, but all I can say is...it doesn't make my music sound any better than my complimentary apple earbuds.
All the scruffs and scuffs around the edges
See how the glue is peeling and there is a large crack, it was like this upon receiving the item
2. Impracticality
Think about the last time you actually wore headphones out of the house... IMO these things are quite fussy when you bring them out, you have to fold it, pouch it, unfold it etc, when really just having earbuds will make things a lot easier. Since these headphones are more on the fashion accessory side than tech tool, you would want to wear them out for the world to seeee.
But I really have to make an effort to remember to bring them. (The pouch will get dirty from staying in a handbag so I do take them out anddd forget to put them back in)
3. The painnn
IDK if its the Layla (smaller model) or what, but when I wear it for over an hour my ears BURNNN. They press on the side of the head so much and will cause great discomfort.
4. It's not as fashionable as you think
If you're like me where you can only get these online, then these are considerations you have to make. If you try them on in store and they look awesome then please let me be you xD
Excuse no makeup...
looks a bit small on my head -_-
on a positive note.....
These headphones are quite one of a kind and you can't find many others that can rival with it in terms of fashion. So if you're looking to make a statement or is an avid instagrammer with a few bucks to spare then go for it.
The main conclusion of this blog post is to say: Yes I do feel these headphones ARE overpriced, and NO they're not miraculous in quality BUT I won't slap myself across the face multiple times for the purchase. They're simply novelty items that are interesting and aesthetically pleasing. If you're looking for function as the prime aspect then I suggest giving these a pass.
As for me... I'm really just hooked on the looks of these headphones upon purchase LOL
so I'm 20% regret, 50% meh. and 30% would suggest to someone else. ;)
hope this was helpful! :D
